Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, through the Aged and Disabled Waiver, a Nebraska Medicaid program that pays for care services in your home instead of a facility. It covers people 65 and older, plus adults with disabilities, when they meet the state’s care and financial rules. We are an enrolled provider, so once a waiver plan is in place our caregivers deliver the care it authorizes.

Three things have to line up: Nebraska Medicaid enrollment; age 65 and over, or a qualifying disability at any adult age; and a state assessment showing a nursing-facility level of care need. The state decides all three, not us. The useful part for families: the same level of need that qualifies someone for a nursing facility can qualify them to receive care at home instead.

Applications go through the state, online at the iServe Nebraska portal or by phone with DHHS. A service coordinator is assigned once eligibility is established, and services cannot be backdated, so applying early is worth it. We will point your family to the right starting place, explain what the process looks like, and work directly with your service coordinator once care is approved. Request a free assessment to talk it through.

The waiver can cover personal care, companion visits, chores, respite for family caregivers, home-delivered meals, and more, depending on what the service coordinator puts in the plan. On the care side, that maps to our personal care and companion visits, with respite care for the family members carrying the load between visits.

In many cases, yes. Nebraska allows certain family members, including adult children and in some situations spouses, to be paid caregivers when state requirements are met, and the person receiving care must be enrolled in the waiver first. The rules have detail to them, so bring the question to your service coordinator, and we will help you understand the options.
